Skincare Products For Men

I receive a lot of DMs/PMs (direct messages/private messages) about products or service recommendations. The most recent was about skincare products for men was from an acquaintance. He is really into making sure that his skin looks as good as he feels and was looking to try something different. I suggested Clinique, but he has tried that brand in the past so I recommended Kieh'ls to him. One of the other products I wanted to include was from Maple Holistics that being said, here are skincare products that I recommend for men.

Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Tonic $18

Tonics are what toners are for women. It is used to bring the skin back down to its normal pH level after after we have manipulated it for whatever reason. The reason that I am suggesting that men used to this toner is because it is packed with Vitamin C, Caffeine and Vitamin E. Please take note, that every product that I am recommending will have more healthy ingredients than chemical based ones. Vitamin C is crucial for the skin specifically the face. When you are tugging on your skin and stretching it to get a closer shave then you are potentially increasing your chances of creating wrinkles or as you would say fine lines. By using this toner after shaving you are adding back in the nutrients, radiance to the skin and decreasing the rate of aging skin.

Obsessed Maple Holistics Assuage Beard Oil $8

This beard oil is one that I have absolutely fell in love with. As a professional barber and cosmetologist I have told clients past and present that they have to use good products on their skin. Skincare is essential and having great products that is for multiple uses is even better. This oil I recently used at a wedding where I was hired to shave the groomsmen and the groom for the wedding. The Assuage Beard Oil by Holistics consist of Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Coconut Oil, Avocado Oil, Vitamin E Acetate, Rosmarinus officinalis (Rosemary) Oil, and more.  The most beneficial is Jojoba Oil due to its antibacterial properties. This oil helps control bacterial growth in the hair follicle which is crucial considering the pores are open when this product is applied to the skin. The oil also has the capability to sooth irritated skin which can happen when running a sharp bladed across the face.

Kiehl's Facial Fuel UV Guard SPF 50+ $38

kiehl's facial uv guard for men

The sun is beautiful but the way that those UV rays are hitting the skin thanks to the ozone layer constantly disappearing, you have to PROTECT YOUR SKIN. Like many of Kiehl's products this one I will also recommend to my barber clients and to friends due to the many benefits of natural based ingredients. Like the Toner, this Facial Fuel UV Guard SPF 50+ contains Vitamin C, Caffeine and Vitamin E. For a SPF protection I am more interested in the Vitamin E portion. According to Kiehl's website, "Naturally occurring in plant leaves and skin. Vitamin E helps neutralize skin-damaging free radicals and has soothing moisturizing properties". Now these are the properties that you want in your skincare.

Skincare Method

  1. Cleanse the skin thoroughly
  2. Apply a dime size amount to the beard
  3. Lather beard with shaving cream
  4. Shave with the grain (or against the grain if you dare to get that close)
  5. Rinse with cold water (to close the pores)
  6. Pat dry
  7. Mist or apply with a cotton ball a small amount of Kiehl's Facial Fuel Energizing Tonic to skin
  8. Massage a pea size amount of beard oil onto the beard
  9. Apply a nickel size amount of facial moisturizer
  10. Apply a nickel size amount of Facial Fuel UV Guard SPF 50+

The entire goal of investing in great skin routines and products is to treat and prevent. Follow this easy skincare method to ensure that you get the most from the products suggested above. Let me know if you have tried any of the skincare product recommendation for men above.
